What Is Equine Therapy?

Equine Therapy (or Horse Therapy) is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions between patients and horses. It involves activities (such as grooming, feeding, haltering and leading a horse) that are supervised by a mental health professional, often with the support of a horse professional.

The goal of equine therapy is to aid patients in developing useful life-skills including accountability, responsibility, self-confidence, problem-solving skills, and self-control. Equine therapy also provides an innovative way for therapists and patients to identify and address a range of emotional and behavioral challenges.

What is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is musical experience where the sound artist (sometimes called a "sound healer") provides music meant to calm the mind and bring the listener(s) into a relaxed state of mind. Instruments and sounds are chosen to create a "wash of sound." Nature sounds, slow-changing, long-sustaining musical instruments such as singing bowls or pad synthesizers, heartbeat-like drums, as well as the voice may all be played. To learn more about sound baths including some of the research supporting them and the philosophy behind them, see Janae's blog.
